Unique cactus species found in Havana at Cuba

At Havana on june 4 as reported by Indo Asian News Service ,Scientist have discovered many unique species of Cactus in cuba,as they are unique but they are also dangerous as the can cause damage too,These species are named opuntica stricta they were discovered on small islets of carribean nation as reported by prensa latinanews agency.



Carlos Acevedo, a biologist at the Center for Coastal Ecosystem Research in Cayo Coco, said the plant was found in the islets of the Gulf of Ana Maria, in the Jardines de la Reina archipelago, south of the central province of Ciego de Avila.


When the scientist were on their tour they discovered cactus species on sandy shores.

Acedevo said that those cactus species were harmful for coastal life they grow instantly.

Jardines de la Reina is considered one of the best preserved marine ecosystems in the Caribbean due to the health and preservation of coral reefs.
Cuba currently has recorded 322 species of invasive plants, considered dangerous for the damage they have on biodiversity and its impact on soil quality, water and beaches.
